컨트리 음악은 전형적으로 백인 음악이지만 Ray Charles 나 Charley Pride는 흑인이었고 또 중요한 컨트리 가수 Jimmie Rodgers, Hank Williams, Willie Nelson은 미 흑인음악에서 절대적인 영향을 받았다.
65년에 데뷔한 Charley Pride ..백인 사회의 컨트리로 처음으로 성공한 흑인 스타였다. 70년대 전반에 걸쳐 히트를 연발 RCA에서 앨비스·프레슬리의 뒤를있는 레코드·세일즈를 기록했다고 하는 대히트 메이커 였다.
