캐나다 태평양철도(Canadian Pacific Railroad,CPR)은 캐나다의 철도회사로서
1867년 캐나다이스트와 캐나다웨스트의 연방 결성 직후에 건설이 시작된 캐나다 최초의 대륙횡단 철도.
캐나디안퍼시픽의 주요설립자인 도널드 A. 스미스가
1885년 11월 7일 이 철도를 완성하는 마지막 대못을 박았다.
최초의 열차가 밴쿠버를 향해 몬트리올을 출발한 것은 1886년 6월 28일이었다.
완성될 당시 캐나디안퍼시픽 철도는 세계 최장의 철도 가운데 하나였다.
이 철도의 완성은 재정적·지리적 장애를 극복한 승리였는데,
특히 로키 산맥의 장벽을 극복한 것과 키킹호스 협로의 건설은 기술적인 개가였다.
이 철도는 실업가들과 금융업자들이 신디케이트를 결성하여 건설자금을 댔으며,
그들은 그들대로 캐나다 정부로부터 보조금과 토지불하 등의 강력한 지원을 받았다.
