By 1929, Victor had sold over a hundred thousand copies of

Wildwood Flowers and Keep on the Sunny Side.

 

컨트리음악에 카터 패밀리를 모르고서는 컨트리음악 자체를

이해하기 어렵다할만큼 그들의 영향은 매우큽니다

Alvin Pleasant Delaney Carter 와 그의 부인 Sara Dougherty Carter

그리고 그의 사촌처제이자 제부인 Maybelle Addington Carter (형제가 사촌간인 자매와 각각 결혼함)

로 결성되어 1927년부터 1943년까지 활동한 Carter Family

1세대 오리지날 멤버 오리지널 멤버로서의

활동시기는 그다지 크지 않습니다

하지만 네임에 걸맞게 가족들의 명맥을 유지하려는 노력은

Carter Family 1세대 해체후에 Maybelle은 그녀의 3딸과 함께

Carter Family 2세대를 결성하여 활동함으로서 시작되었다.

Maybelle 의 능숙하고 개성적인 기타연주 스타일은 후에

Johnny Cash 에게도 많은 영향을 주었으며 Maybelle 의 2째딸

June Carter 가 Johnny Cash의 2번째 부인이 되었다.

Maybelle Carter 는 솔로 가수로는 거의 활동하지 않았고

"Will The Circle Be Unbroken", "Wildwood Flower" 외에는 많지 않지만

미국 컨트리 음악계의 중창단으로서는 선구자적 역활을 하였으며 후에 사위인 Jony Cash 를 비롯하여

많은 후배가수들에게 많은영향을 끼쳤다.

가스펠송/ 기타주법/창법/블루그래스 등등에서 카터 패밀리는 사실상 교과서나 다름없는 활동을 하였다.
이곡은 카터 패밀리(Carter Family) 의 시조격인 알빈 카터(Alvin P. Carter)

부인인 사 라 카터(Sara Carter)와 친자매가 아닌 시누이 &올케사이인

메이벨 카터(Maybelle Carter) 시절에 불려졌던 곡이다
